Having had a Lost Tribes of Israel Christian background, I had no problem with that at all. I love the Book of Mormon for the spiritual value, and its Christ-centered teachings. I have read New Age books on their idea of what Jesus said, and the Book of Mormon presents Jesus as He is in our Bible. You can become a Christian by reading it, even if only for devotional value. But there were actually non-LDS Christian groups back in the 80's who were publishing it as "Bible 2" that had no affiliation with the LDS Church. Anyway, I have always known it happened here in the USA. I lived for a while in Far West, and when I went to Nauvoo, I really felt the Spirit so strong there. Thank you for this blog. I have to agree with you on all points.
...Stacy,

I have to agree with you on all points.

I gave Joseph the benefit of a doubt as long as I could, but now I must conclude that he was just another false prophet who was likely deceived by a false angel that claimed to be Christ, etc (as so many are being deceived today by such false Christ's, thinking they have been assured Exaltation, while living & teaching contrary to Christ).

And despite that Joseph probably had good & sincere intentions & taught many great ideas (polygamy not being one of them, that was most likely BY) & was a very gifted story teller (BoM), it appears he also taught and did many things completely contrary to the teachings of Christ, insomuch I don't know how anyone comparing the 2 could believe he was a true follower of Christ, let alone a true prophet.

But weak & erroneous prophets are very easy to fall for because they give us alot of room to be imperfect ourselves & not feel guilty about not keeping or standing up for Christ's commandments.

But the New Testament Gospel is very clear & simple. True prophets would teach 'the words of Christ', not their own new doctrines, like temples, murder to get brass plates, prove truth by prayer & warm fuzzies (instead of by facts, fruits & love, as Christ commanded), sealings, paid church leaders, tithing used for other things then all for the poor, polygamy, allowing divorce, requiring confession, excommunication, etc, etc.

I totally agree that so many of the teachings & doings of the Mormon Church & it's leaders are completely contrary to the teachings of Jesus Christ, even far more contrary then even most Christian Churches out there.

Joseph may not have lied about polygamy, but he surely seems to have lied about most everything else and asked for people's money to use on himself & his church (instead of telling people to give their excess $ all to the poor not him), and he was continually duped by evil men who eventually took over & twisted his dream of a new Church.
BKnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1342380624800894371.post-62605346828751675312014-11-08T11:25:52.689-08:002014-11-08T11:25:52.689-08:00It's really not that hard to point the truth o...It's really not that hard to point the truth out. 1. Jesus said upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Jesus built a CHURCH that the gates of hell would not prevail against. So, Jesus to Peter to Paul and then to the rest of the world, the Church was established long before ole Joe even existed. The same bible warns against "ANOTHER" gospel/testament of Jesus. How can anybody in their right mind not see that book with it's title "Another Testament". It's as if they can't read or something. Lastly the Apostles teach the same church that existed before Joseph to not accept that teaching. God said not to in Galatians. It even goes on to reveal that if they or an angel from heaven contradict the Word of God to not listen to it. I believe Joeseph did visit with an angle that day. I believe he visited with a fallen angle. Evidence proves that the teaching of the Mormon is different than that of the Church that existed before Joseph. The creator of the universe says differently than that of the BOM. Now which should I believe. It's a no brainer. Joseph Was a liar and thief and was murdered because of it. I'd agree with Galatian and call it "accursed".Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1342380624800894371.post-7706817229463319312014-11-01T22:39:36.512-07:002014-11-01T22:39:36.512-07:00This is the "best" evidence?

I came acros...Just wanted to leave a few thoughts. I came across a book called "Revelation and The Land of Promise" by Kelly Beynon Feree which first sparked my interest in the "Heartland Model" I don't believe this book was ever published and I only have a spiraled bound copy. This book mentioned the Cahokia mounds as well and I know one of the comments suggested that it would be foolish to link the Nephites with the Cahokia Indians. I wondered about this as well and made it a point to visit the mounds a few months ago. I asked one of the researchers there about whether the Cahokia Indians were responsible for the mounds. He said that they were not and that the Cahokias found the mounds when they moved into the area and thought them to be sacred since many bones were found in the mounds. Because of that they began using the mounds as spiritual structures. Interestingly enough, the researcher also confirmed another piece of info from the book that the Cahokia along with many other tribes along the Mississippi were familiar with two phrases regarding the fate of a great people who were there before them and who were responsible for the mounds. Those phrases are "The dark and bloody ground" and "The Great Dying". Many anthropologist believe these phrases deal with a people being wiped out due to disease, however, the phrases seem to allude to a more violent end. Lastly, I asked the researcher whether it was plausible that those mounds possibly had nothing to do with spiritual worship, but were used as a means of quickly dealing with the many bodies of that mysterious decimated people (Ether 11:6). He simply replied that he had never thought of that, but yes that was possible since they know so little of this mysterious civilization who disappeared so suddenly. Anyways, the book gives many other interesting evidences for the Heartland Model but I still need to verify the sources for much of it . By the way, Great discussion.2bowdownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08217050270740967520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1342380624800894371.post-58243539145169736392014-09-06T18:12:04.029-07:002014-09-06T18:12:04.029-07:00I know this is a really, really, really old post. ...I know this is a really, really, really old post.
